Tips for Parents and Teachers: Talking to Children About Violence

High profile acts of violence, particularly in schools, can confuse and frighten children who may feel in danger or worry that their friends or loved-ones are at risk. They will look to adults for information and guidance on how to react. Parents and school personnel can help children feel safe by establishing a sense of normalcy and security and talking with them about their fears.

Superintendent Harry Mathias School Safety email message sent to all Teachers and Staff School Safety
Central Columbia High School student made threats to other students. The problem was resolved without issue.

Today, Thursday, February 22nd, a Central Columbia High School student made serious threats to other students. These other students, doing the right thing, filed a report which alerted the High School principal. Jeff Groshek, our High School principal, contacted the local police. Jointly they launched an investigation and resolved any threat.

We appreciate anyone who steps forward with information regarding the safety of our students, staff, and teachers. Together we can solve the issues that we are facing.
